The Project
Alexander Mikhailovich Rodtchenko’s work covers paintings, objects, design, graphics and architectural projects. He invented novel solutions for each medium. All of his bold experiments and his experiences come together in his photography. With his idiosyncratic angles, unusual perspectives, diagonals, lighting effects and with the introduction of series, he was not only a major influence on the Russian avant-garde around 1920-1930 but also revolutionized photography, pointing it in original directions that still exist today.
The exhibition presents 125 photographs by Alexander Rodchenko from the collections of the Musée Nicéphore Niépce in Chalon-sur-Saône. The photographs are either vintage prints or later prints made from original negatives into the topics of portraits, foreshortening and modern esthetics, urban life and technology, people on the move, Rodchenko’s poetry, and photomontage.
