In the “Jardin des Planètes” (engl. Garden of Planets), planets designed by artists’ hands rise into the sky and create an artificial as well as artistic universe in the middle of Eggenberg Palace Park. Here, visitors walk among trees and planets as if in a distant cosmos, but at the same time find themselves in a modern translation of the magnificent Planetary Hall inside the palace: planets and zodiac, constellations and elements unite in the Planetary Hall to form a grand allegory of the Golden Age under the reign of the Princes Eggenberg. In this self-created universe, they direct the heavens and the destinies on earth as gods. The cycle of paintings from 1685 depicted in the hall is thus a reflection of the astrological thinking of the time. It is therefore no coincidence that the “Jardin des Planètes,” curated by Klaus Littmann, rises precisely in the woods of Schloss Eggenberg, since it also makes references to the world that surrounds us or influences us. The oversized spheres in the “Jardin des Planètes” have been provided with various pictorial statements by national and international artists, whose motifs correspond to the themes of man, nature, artificiality or time. Some of them, as thematic loners, form a galaxy of opposites as we so often find in everyday life. This luminous garden of planets invites viewers to reconsider or redefine global positions, and thus
thus becomes an art intervention that enriches the urban world by yet another.
On the evenings of October 27-30, 2021, KLANGLICHT 2021 will make Eggenberg Palace Park glow and sound. The universe depicted in Eggenberg Palace, the history of illumination, the significance of light and candlelight as part of the spatial setting – all this forms the basis of the artistic exploration of this year’s Festival of Sound and Vision. At a total of eleven locations, compositions of sound and light will occupy the garden and immediate surroundings of Schloss Eggenberg: Nationally and internationally renowned artists were inspired by the historic cosmos and developed artworks that form a coexistence with the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site, while at the same time entering into a visible and audible dialogue with it. Visitors are invited to explore both space and time as well as their own relationship in this continuum on the paths of Eggenberg Palace Park, thus rediscovering themselves and their surroundings.
Klanglicht will be a guest at Eggenberg Palace on four evenings, from October 27 to 30, 2021.
The individual locations in the garden of Schloss Eggenberg will be played continuously from 18:00 to 23:00.
